Ruby Falls in Tennessee is one of the “wonders of the United States”. This isn’t a sinkhole, a depression, a man made phenomenon. This is simply the deepest and the highest underground waterfall.

This waterfall is 145 foot underground and located within the Lookout Mountain. This place is near the Rock City and the Chattanooga in Tennessee.

About the Fall

The waterfall was formed with the formation of the mountain. This was believed to have taken its shape some 200 to 240 million years ago, possibly during the Paleozoic era. The eastern part of Tennessee was covered with shallow sea and the sediments of this formed the limestone rock. It is believed that “around 200 years ago this area was uplifted and subsequent erosion created the current topography. The limestone in which the cave is formed is still relatively horizontal, just as it was deposited when it was below sea level”.

This mountain which includes the falls is a limestone cave. It is believed that these caves are bound to occur when “slightly acidic groundwater enters the subterranean streams and eats away at the relatively soluble limestone causing narrow cracks to widen into passages and caves in a process called chemical weathering”. The stream which made the fall is said to have entered the cave sometime after it was formed.

Features of the Cave

The Ruby Falls cave is believed to have several formations which include stalactites, stalagmites, columns, drapery and flowstone. The falls is situated at the end of the main passage of the cave in a large vertical shaft. The stream is 1120 feet underground and is fed both by rainwater and natural springs.

Ruby Falls is believed to attract tourists from all over the world. The annual visitation records show that almost 400,000 tourists have visited the place. This place is also registered among the National Register for Historic Places and is ranked as the 80 year old natural attraction.

Lighthouses are like an accessory for the seashores and a savior for the seafarers. The lighthouses have served as a beacon for those sailors, whose lives have been saved through the existence of these lighthouses. But of late, many of these lighthouses have been found to be haunted. Interesting the question that arises is how can, lighthouses be haunted? Do the ghosts travel that far to reside in those far away lighthouses?!

According to a survey, it has been found that more than 80% of the lighthouses in the US are found to be haunted. These are not goosebump tales but actualities. After researching, I have found that some of these places are really dangerous. The lighthouses can be haunted due to the tragedies at ship, a horrible pirate attack, or some mishap on the sea.

There are some lighthouses in the US that have been ranked by the tourism industry there, to be the top ten haunted lighthouses in the US.

The Point Lookout Lighthouse is often called as America’s most haunted lighthouse. This lighthouse has documented many paranormal activities, since the 1860’s. It is said that the spirit of the first keeper of this lighthouse, Ann Davis, has been seen standing at the stairway and disembodied and noises has been heard and recorded on an audiotape. It is also believed that figures lost during the Civil War keep wandering the basements searching for graves dug a century ago.

It is believed that when the Coast Guards took over the Saginaw River Lighthouse, strange noises began to be heard and weird events started to be reported there. Namely it was the heavy sound of boots on the iron staircase that would be heard, but nobody could be found there.

The Presque Isle Light near Alpena, Michigan is also one of the scariest lighthouses in the area. It is said that the keeper of the lighthouse imprisoned his woman there as she had gone insane, and during her last days she would scream and go wild. Those screams are still audible in the lighthouse there.

Heceta Head Lighthouse is said to be haunted by the mother of an unknown baby, whose grave had been found on the ground where the lighthouse stands. It is believed that she moves around the lighthouse in search of her baby and keeps moving objects there.

Old Port Boca Grande Lighthouse is among those, which is rated as the most dangerous sites in the US. It is believed that two spirits haunt the lighthouse. One is the dead daughter of the keeper of the lighthouse, who suffered from whooping cough and malaria and after her untimely death was buried in the lighthouse and the other is the Spanish Princess Josefa. Her head was chopped off by a pirate, after she refused to marry him. She roams the beach in search of her head.

The Plymouth Lighthouse has an interesting story. The keepers of this lighthouse in 1769 were John and Hannah Thomas. John was killed during the revolutionary war and Hannah is believed to have been the first woman lighthouse keeper in the States. Hannah roams around the lighthouse in search of her husband and has often posed as a trouble for those who’ve been to the lighthouse.

The St. Augustine’s Lighthouse, has a weird story. Nobody till date has been able to find out, who haunts the lighthouse. Voices of a child, groans of a male and heavy footstep can be heard. Researchers have tried going into the lighthouse and finding out, but nothing has come up till date.

The New London Ledge Lighthouse is believed to be haunted by the spirit of Ernie, a broken hearted lighthouse keeper, who had jumped from the catwalk of the lighthouse, after he found out that his wife had run away with a local ferry captain. He searches for his wife on the ships and the trawlers on the deck.

These are not tales that you can read out to your kids, if they aren’t going to sleep, but real places haunted and are a monument, which has been preserved. There are tours that take you around these lighthouses and you can witness the history behind them, by visiting these places.

“Start spreading the news

I’m leaving today

I want to be a part of it

New York, New York…”

The first few lyrics of this song by Frank Sinatra is a booster for people who are on their way to the famous city of New York. Who has not heard about this world capital? But for newbie’s who come to this metropolitan need to know a few things one ought to do when they come. So let’s start the ball rolling.

Restaurants:

For a foodie, New York is not less than ‘heaven’. Boasting of more than 20,000 eating joints there is nothing that you will not find. From junk to exclusive cuisines, they have it all. And if you want to go in for an inexpensive treat, the street vendors are no less in their mouth watering eats.

Night-outs:

Can this city ever sleep? This is a question a person coming to this city asks and what he gets for an answer is obviously, a big NO! The night-life timing, here are not the quintessential nine to two. You say you want to dance and let yourself loose at three in the afternoon, so be it. Its party time 24×7, all through the year.

Statue of Liberty:

The Statue of Liberty, a symbol of freedom and liberty for not only the people of U.S but also the world, is one of the key attractions of the city. One just cannot go back without seeing this beauty. The Statue with a flame of torch has been for years the face of the United States of America.

Musical events:

There is not a single day that you will not find a band playing at some part of the city. Not to mention, they play exceptionally well and draw people in great numbers. Music is something that always has been a factor for bonding of people. Music goes beyond all geographical borders and beyond creed. One does not need to understand the language in what’s being sung or played. You will find music of every genre being played there.

Baseball matches:

If someone who has never seen a baseball match, New York is the place to go and enjoy the game. The famous New York Yankees and the New York Mets, have ruled the roost for a long time now. Once in the stadium, you can actually see the whole city in there. It is generally jam-packed and like in our country cricket is a religion, the game of baseball is no less.

New York is one place that still holds its charm. A place one definitely needs to visit to see everything and anything one could imagine a place could hold.

Today, the Fort Lauderdale Beach has been renovated with $26 million. Due to this, you can eat lunch at cafes, or visit some shops along the beach.

After listening about this beach a month before, I agreed few friends to visit the beach in a group. My friends were already reserved rooms in Fort Lauderdale hotel and gathered all necessary information about the city so that we could be able to explore them properly. When we reached to the city, the superb skyline and blue sea was welcoming us with pleasant views of the city. Well, Fort Lauderdale is well known for its beaches and boats so we planned to first see and have fun at the water of this city. Tourists love to visit this site and when we entered the beach, we saw vast amount of tourists thronged from other cities and countries as well.

Tourists was simply enjoying the soft sand, making themselves feel comfortable at the site, and enjoy its tropical climate. As we went to this site first time, we planned to explore and enjoy as much attractions as possible. We first went to our rooms to get fresh and by the time take rest as well. The rooms were nice and the amenities were also provided very well in the room. As it was afternoon, we first had meal at a restaurant of the same hotel. What became easier was that the hotel was on the beachfront, giving us wonderful views from the windows of our rooms. After having a little of lunch we walked towards the beach and took some amazing pictures of this breathtaking sights.

It was a splendid surprise for all of us, as this blue sea gives awesome views to every people who come here. As all of my friends ate heavy lunch, we didn’t been for swimming at water. Besides that, we walked around the site and watched people enjoying the activities. Later we thought to have fun, and so we went ahead for boating. Truly, this was a real experience, as we saw magnificent sights from through boating. I could easily say that this beach never makes anyone feel bored. Waking on the soft sand of the beach during afternoon is really a fascinating experience.

When the time has passed so soon we did not understand, but watching the sunset at the beach was very charming. We got completely exhausted so went back to our room for a better sleep at night. As it was our first day we thought to see the location, whether it pulls our interests or not. Therefore, the next day we gained lot of energy to try some of the activities. The morning time view was excellent and it influenced us a lot. With the fresh air, we started our day and slowly we witnessed that the crowd were coming to make their day memorable. Some people were simply jumping on the water, some trying to swim, some lying on the sand and some walking and enjoying the activities and sports.

After enjoying a lot, we took one-hour rest by sun bathing on the beach chair. Lying on the chair, it is so cool to have some snacks and drinks and just go on watching the glorious sights. The next day we arrived to try fishing and along with that we were very happy to experience the deep water boating. We made our days as a memorable lifetime experience at the city of Fort Lauderdale. Shopping at nearby market places, having something at the shops on the site of beach, try some stylish dishes at the street, dining at close restaurants, and some others were very much fascinating that boost energy and interest of every tourist.

Our heart filled with joy after experiencing and enjoying so much of sights and things within these three days. Swimming, walking, watching, sunset, hotels, restaurants, street food, shopping, exotic water, and scenic beauty, all became a pot full of attractions for a tourist to explore. We all came back to our home with other things that we bought from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but something special among those were the memories, which is unforgettable for all of us.

Distinct, impeccable, mammoth are few essence that can best describe Georgia, which snuggles cozily at the East of River Mississippi. It is totally distinctive and unusual terrain from the others lying at its skirts. It is different from others as it is embellished with perfect and ideal location that the entire south has to offer. Enriched with wildlife and cultural extremists, right-leaning Republican political parties stand firmly against liberal idealism. Its geographical location presents lofty northern mountain ranges that rise to touch the sky; the vast cities gulp the smaller cities, overwhelmed rivers flow swiftly, and the coastal marshy lands are swarmed with fiddler crabs and waving cordgrass.

Atlanta, its capital and a large metropolitan city is a vast centre for transportation amenities, which rests casually with friendly neighborhoods. Its vicinity is incorporated with gigantic multinational companies MNC like Coca Cola and UPS. Coca cola memorializes its presence with a huge lustrous museum that is located at the city center. To relish fun and frolic of an amazing itinerary, backpack your stuffs and embark your trip from Atlanta. Following, chase the roadways and come across the state to gaze the mesmerizing retreats comprising of swaying oaks, antebellum houses, and arid nights of Savannah. After an eye-soothing natural indulgence, move ahead to enjoy in the nearby coastal barrier islands. There, tourists are provided great opportunities to discover loads of sophisticated and lively resorts and natural treasures. Also, carry your party attires to Jekyll Island and hiking boots to Cumberland.

Tourist attractions

Athens:

Lying around 70 miles to the East of Atlanta, Athens is a mellowing town with arty, beery and casual college. However, it is popular for its much-appraised football team i.e. the University of Georgia Bulldogs, perky music scene whose land have given birth to rocking artists like B-52’S, REM and Widespread Music. Also, its flourishing and ever-growing restaurant culture offers a delectable treat with well-known chefs occupying the picture like the star chef Hugh Acheson and his electrifying eatery Five & Ten.

Popular as UGA, the University of Georgia imbibes the culture of Athens and contributes an efficient flow of young bar-hoppers and concertgoers. Altogether, it is an enchanting location which stores something for everyone, its glitzy shopping stores, funky restaurants and drinking treats are there in abundance. Head in this comprehensive location from Atlanta by tracking over any one of these three routes- Highway 316, Highway 129 and Highway 78. Visit the Athens Welcome Center as it is an ancient Antebellum House, located at the corner of St. Thomas. Here, you can find maps, information on local tours which comprise of the civil war tour and a ‘Walking tour of Athens music history’ which is published in sync to the local entertainment magazine ‘Flagpole.’

Central Georgia:

Georgia is an immense location which certainly possesses something or other for everyone, it will pull things from its hat that others can’t provide, even not the metropolitan Atlanta, neither the mountainous north Georgia, nor the swampy Savannah-centric south Georgia. The rest of the regions feels pastoral and southern, actually it is the difference between suburban living and country living.

Savannah:

Savannah is a grand antique town which possesses exciting charms like the formal antebellum architecture and rampant public fantasies. Perched besides river Savannah, around 18 miles from the coast, it lies amidst low country marshlands and lofty oak trees which are dribbling with Spanish moss. This town has preserved lovely mansions, cotton warehouses, and colonial public buildings with a beautiful glossy, luster that welcomes the tourists with a pretty smile on its face. However, being referred as ‘a beautiful lady with a dirty face,’ this charming town delights in being bad girl. Sometimes, it reflects a pint-sized image of New Orleans.

Savannah also has a somber façade, however it doesn’t take that too gravely, this can be attributed somewhat to Savannah College of Arts and Design (SCAD) as its presence lightens the situation. The city’s festive celebrations of St. Patrick’s Day are a grand affair and a legendary rite of spring which witnesses participation of the entire cottage industry. The cottage industry serves tourists who have a belief that Savannah is spooky, interested ghost-seekers can get guided tours of the city.

Excursion in Florida which is also renowned as “Sunshine State” on the threshold of autumn brings around the atmosphere of woodsmoke and plummeting leaves, however this cannot be the only thing that is expected in autumn, it also depends on the fact that where you are visiting. In the Gulf Coast of Florida, I did not witness much seasons except the perpetual monsoon and dry seasons. Over here, it is a roller coaster ride of diminishing things that are continuously changing or developing old and older by the rising time.

This place experiences a lesser amount of falling and dying, over the modern revamped spots like the Highway 41, same as the proliferating numbers of elderly women leaning on the warmth beaches. Moving ahead, for exploring the terrain, similar things were lying on so many levels. A watch outside looking through the window provided a view of a fellow who was cleansing downwards with some smelly water.

Later after this, I along with my friend made a visit to the nearby garden which is set on the tracks of shady oak and tall pine trees with old section of Flatwoods. There, my eye-sights could not perceive sight of peoples and then both of us went ahead for unmasking the tracks. While passing through the trails, we observed proliferation of the wild edible of fennel; I can still conceive the views, as they are fresh and tend to clearly appear in front of my eyes.

Coming out again in the trails of the park, gives chuckling sounds in the ear, and when we get alongside the park, there are four small girls enjoying over the slides. This view acquainted me to the parks of Mexico, the way of living there in the open, the simplicity and translucence, that I never thought that would recline in the lands of Florida, but always desiring the same.

I have always been fond of this soothing season since I was born and brought up in the region of Georgia. The place where I was residing was cooler but still it provided warmth and falls used to be the parched time in the year. During that time, it was the most exciting to walk down the calming River Chattahoochee and serenely watching the view of everything around falling. I believe that it is a form of transparency, hence go guys and grab the transparent side of nature. Tour with right senses and you will land in relaxing tranquility.
